Oceania World Handball Championship Qualification TournamentOceania Member Nations can contest for the right to represent the Oceania Region at the next World Handball Championships (for women) to be held in France in 2007: Australia and New Zealand participated in this competition in 2007, with teams representing both the New Zealand Handball Federation and Handball New Zealand taking part. The Handball Tasman CupThere is a proud tradition of "friendly" rivalry between New Zealand and Australia in many things but none more so than the rivalry in the sporting arena. It is therefore appropriate that this tradition is continued by teams participating in one of the youngest sports played by our two Nations, Handball. The Handball Tasman Cup, started in 2004, is contested whenever our two Nations meet and compete in handball. In 2007 this tradition will continue with matches between the two Nations featuring the women's teams. A separate (additional) trophy, the Handball Tasman Cup, was awarded to the victorious team, Australia. We look forward to our next meeting with teams from new Zealand ... the tradition continues. |
