Who said Handball isn't glamorous?
21 May 2004 - When Mary Donaldson was working during the Olympics, the sport
of handball probably didn’t mean much.
Little did she know a chance meeting whilst celebrating the Danish women's
handball team's gold medal would yield a Prince and she would become a Princess
in front of millions of people world-wide.
The royal wedding might be over but importantly the handball is about to begin!
Handball, the surprise packet of the Olympics is back! Attracting nearly
200,000 spectators, handball was the 9th most watched sport at the Sydney
Olympics.
The Handball Pacific Cup Tournament 2004 takes place at Sydney Olympic Park,
Sports Centre, from Monday June 7 to Sunday June 13.
The event will be contested by Australia, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, New
Zealand and Tahiti and determines the Oceania representative at the next World
Handball Championship for men to be held in Tunisia 2005.
Handball is a fast growing sport within Australia and is played in over 160
countries, with millions of players registered worldwide.
To find out why the sport is considered the fastest team ball sport, come out to
Sydney Olympic Park – who knows you may meet a Prince or Princess!
